Engaging Students: First In the Nation is an interdisciplinary collaboration between Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, and Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, New Hampshire, focused on educating and engaging students and the public regarding the Iowa Caucuses and the New Hampshire Primary during the 2008 presidential election cycle.

2006-07 events included presidential candidate interviews with Sen. John Edwards (D) of North Carolina, Sen. Joe Biden (D) of Deleware, Rep. Duncan Hunter (R) of California, Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D) of Ohio and Gov. Mike Gravel (D) of Alaska; a convocation by Helen Thomas, former White House Bureau Chief for United Press International; and alumni panels about media ethics. The Sen. Edwards event has been broadcast on C-SPAN2 nationally.

All First in the Nation events were broadcast live between Franklin Pierce University in New Hampshire and Wartburg College in Iowa. All events were free and open to the community.
